UCR Reporting by Offense “Include” code

The UCR reports have been enhanced to provide you with more control over which offenses will be included in the reports. As you are probably aware, in previous releases a new code was added to Incident Part 2 Offense Information screen called “Include in UCR” (as seen in figure below). The Offense Information program has been filling in a default answer of “Y” for the first offense and “N” for all other offenses within an incident. This default complies with the NCIC UCR reporting rules.

The UCR reports are generated upon request by filling out the “RUN PROMPT for Uniform Crime Reports” screen found on the Reports Menu. This RUN PROMPT screen now has a new question (see figure below) on it called “Use ‘Include’ flag in offense”. This question allows you to select which method to use when determining if a specific offense will be included in the reports. If you leave it blank or fill in “N” the reports will be generated the same as they always have been by reporting only offense number 1 for each incident. If you change it to “Y” then selection of offenses will be based solely on the content of the “Include in UCR” code.

Only the first three reports (Return A, Supplemental Report of Offenses Known, and Supplement to Return A) are actually affected by this feature. The other reports are based on contact information. This new feature will allow your agencies to decide which offenses within an incident will be reported on the UCR Reports and allow more offenses to be counted when desired.
